Inclement Weather Policy

Emergency School Closing Information for All Grades

Should ILS make the decision to close schools due to winter or severe weather, staff, and parents/guardians of students will be notified via an automated text and email. ILS will also post closings on Channel 3 WREG and Channel 5 WMCTV.

How ILS determines school closures:

The ILS administration monitors all weather situations closely by relying on local forecasts and the National Weather Service. ILS also collaborates with surrounding school districts and private schools when deciding to cancel or delay school openings.

When ILS notifies families of school closures:

If possible, ILS will notify families about school closures or delays the night before by 10 p.m. If the decision to close school is made overnight, parents and staff can expect to receive a phone call at home early in the morning. While the goal is to notify parents by 6 a.m., there could be instances in which notification is sent after 6 a.m.

Inclement Weather Days:

ILS has 5 inclement weather days built into the school calendar. Any additional days missed beyond those could be rescheduled.

School Closing Summary:

For inclement weather situations, school status decisions will be communicated prior to 6 a.m. as “Immanuel Lutheran School-Closed”

Then the…

  • K-8 programs are closed

  • Preschool programs are closed

  • Any afterschool programs or activities are cancelled

Please note: Parents are the ultimate decision makers when it comes to the safety of their children.

On days when weather gets bad in the middle of the day, parents are welcome to come early to pick-up their children even though Immanuel will do everything in its power to remain open. Closing school early is not typically done, except in extreme instances.

In severe weather cases that arise during the day, there may be times that aftercare and afterschool activities are canceled.
